The Big Issue

The Big Issue is a non profit organization which seeks to address the problem of homelessness, using methods which aim to help those in need to avoid homelessness in the long term, not just a short term fix.

The most well known activity of this organization is The Big Issue magazine, which is sold fortnightly by street vendors in all major Australian cities. Street vendors come from the most disadvantaged of our population, suffering from situations like mental illness, homelessness, long-term unemployment, intellectual and physical disability, drug and alcohol dependency, family breakdown. Selling the magazine allows them to not only earn an income, but to connect with the wider community, improve self-esteem and confidence.
